SSA Club News May 5th

Dear SSA Members,

With the Covid-19 ‘Reopening’ process continuing across the state, I wanted to give you all an update on where we stand, both in terms of the youth soccer community in general, and our club in particular.

To begin with, based on feedback from the various governing bodies through which our players are registered and insured, it appears as though they are looking at a date in mid-to-late May to sanction some kind of limited resumption of activities. Allied to this of course will be approval from the Office of the Governor, especially as it relates to our state’s shift into ‘Phase 2’ of the federal ‘Opening Up America Again’ Guidelines, where organized youth activities may resume under certain conditions.

Finally, aside from any kind of approval from our various governing bodies and from the Office of the Governor for a restart to activities, we must also take into account the plans being put in place by our various City and County partners with respect to when they are expecting to reopen public access to their various park facilities. It’s evident, based on recent conversations we’ve had, that this aspect of the process may present the biggest challenge for any ‘Return to Play’ plan for youth sports in general, given that our local government partners have a fundamental responsibility to maintain a safe environment for all their park users that is in keeping with the ‘best practices’ guidance from the state’s Department of Health and various other federal agencies.

Given these factors, it’s very likely therefore that different SSA locations may see a different timeline for a return to the fields, so moving forwards, communication will be on a location-by-location and program-by-program basis, as specific plans are created by our various program directors in response to these timelines.

As and when these specific plans are finalized by our directors, we will share them with the relevant membership, both with respect to which programs will be able to restart, and, in instances where we may not be able to restart a particular program for any reason, a summary of what that will mean for our members on those programs in particular.

Sincerely,

Sean Chamberlain

SSA Operations Manager
