how to join the program

Open tryouts for our 8U-12U Academy, and Girls Academy League, MLS-Next, DPL, NPL and SCCL Select programs take place in late May through early June Click HERE for details.

Joining the program outside of the annual tryouts in late May/early June

1. Individual Tryouts

Individual tryouts are generally available throughout the year for individuals participating on SSA's Rec program or for individuals moving into the metro Atlanta area mid-season, though this is subject to league rules for specific programs. Please note that unlike Academy program tryouts, where players are accepted into a general pool, Girls Academy League, MLS-Next, DPL, NPL and SCCL Select program tryouts are subject to space being available on a team. To start the process, please click HERE and complete the form in full. If your child is currently registered to another club's Select program in the state of GA, there may be league rules in place that limit his/her opportunities to try out at SSA outside the May/June open tryouts. For more information, please contact the relevant program director directly using the information on the 'Contacts' page before completing the form.

2. Group Winter Tryouts

Once the Fall Recreational program season has finished, SSA locations often offer Recreational players the opportunity to attend regularly-scheduled Academy practices or otherwise host a single-day group tryout where a player interested in joining the Academy program for the following Spring season can attend a session with other interested players and experience a sample training session. For details on dates, times, and locations, please click HERE.

3. Fees

Fees are typically pro-rated for players joining the program outside of the annual summer tryouts. For example, players joining through the winter break and playing for just the Spring season would pay fees that are approximately 50% of the annual fees.

4. Registration Process

For a player joining outside of the usual 'open' tryouts, the process of accepting a spot on a team following a tryout and a subsequent offer from a coach is as follows:

A. If the player is new to SSA, the parent needs to create an account in our registration system. The link for this will be included in the information sent to the parent by the team coach once a player is accepted onto a team following the individual tryout or winter group tryout. If the player is a current SSA Recreational player, the parent will be able to use their existing account, but the player's details will need to be added into the 'Participant' section to start the process.

B. Once the account has been created/updated, an invite to officially accept a spot on the team will be sent to the parent and activated in the player's account.

C. The parent will then go into the account to accept the spot on the team, complete all the waivers, and complete payment. Once this is done, the club will add the player into the national registration system so that the player is approved by US Soccer for a player pass. As part of this process, the parent will need to upload a birth certificate before the national governing body will approve the player's participation in competitive games.

D. In addition, the parent will need to communicate with the coach/team manager regarding a shirt number, so that the coach/team manager can add the player's details into the online ordering tool. Once that's complete, the parent will receive an email from our vendor - www.soccer.com - so they can order the uniform pieces. The typically delivery time is 2-3 weeks once the parent places the order. Details on uniform ordering and pricing can be found HERE.
