GREETINGS PARENTS AND PLAYERS :
Another outstanding weekend of baseball for this group !! Each player on this team has gotten better this short season. Each boy has learned to slide and aggressively run the base paths. Each boy is tuned in on the field and plays with attitude and effort. The members of this team expect to win and push one another to perform.
We did not throw the ball around and made very few errors. Ball came back to pitcher quickly from the outfield and extra bases were hardly allowed. Players at the plate worked count well and saw a lot of pitches. Guys have become hard outs and we get a bunch of quality at bats in the games. We made quick work of their starters, having a lead when each was pulled and then absolutely feasted on second tier pitching.
As I stood near 3rd base near the end of our second game, I kind of lost focus making calls for our runners. However, I was struck that the guys continued to move up at every opportunity. They had adopted the aggressive base running attitude and were doing it on their own. That was a great thing to see and really represented practice coming to the field. These guys worked all season, twice a week to get better. The last couple of weekends have certainly been a reflection of a baseball team that has worked really hard to get better.
We ended our 10 game season with a record of 5-3-2. I would like to thank all of the parents for getting guys to practices and games each week. We had many practices that were 100% participation. That was a huge help in getting this team ready to play and the improvement that I feel each player experienced this season. Additionally, I would like to thank Parker’s dad, Todd and Davis’ dad, Jeff for your assistance and dedication to practice twice a week and some long Saturdays on the baseball field. Both of these guys threw a ton of BP this season and contributed greatly to our recent offensive explosions. I very much appreciate the time that each of you spent in support of this baseball team.
Highlights from this weekend included:
Matthew This guy is at the top of the list. Matthew had a tough go in the first game at 1B. He had a couple plays in a row that didn’t go well. He was pulled and came to the bench. He was upset but did not allow himself to get out of the game. He waited for his next chance. His next chance came and he really delivered. Matthew crushed opposing pitching with 3 line drives into the outfield gap. He came back into the field and put earlier errors behind him and played well. This was a great example of a guy who really has worked and bought in to the idea that baseball is a game that will give you an opportunity to redeem yourself if you stay focused and wait for your next chance.
Himesh Pitched another great game. Himesh has emerged as a leader by example on this baseball team. He also goes full speed and has an incredible desire to be great. He caught infield fly and repeatedly got out of tough situations on the mound with focus and strikes. He reached base several times and we even tried to steal off windup. We got caught but I think if we could have had a better initial lead and jump, Himesh would make that play 3 out of 4 times.
Zach Another solid game in the field and at the dish. Played well in the field and came in to provide relief behind the plate. Came thru with a huge hit to clear the bases. Always moving towards home to score. Plays to win putting pressure on the other team at all times.
Parker Solid guy in the field and will play anywhere on the diamond. Hit the ball hard and was robbed of extra bases on a really well hit ball on the right side. Excellent attitude and always hustling.
Brian Batted seventh in our lineup and understood that production at that spot was necessary for winning baseball. Came up at least twice with bases loaded and delivered in the clutch. Provided relief behind the plate and came in to get ground out and strike out to end the second game.
Caleb Great dugout guy. Keeps everybody loose and came thru with a couple of great at bats seeing at least 10 pitches on two occasions. Reached base and runs hard.
Adam In the right position to make force outs at 2B to get lead runner. Good at bats, seeing bundh of pitches and battling back from 0-2 to reach base. Works hard on leads and moving into scoring position
Will Keeps coming through at the plate with timely line drives. Stretched single to double on sharply hit ball into the gap. Came through on long run in right center to steal a hit with great catch
Davis Another great outing this week. Froze several guys with a huge nasty curve. Real gamer who is ready to go and impossible to take out. Cruised through his start making it look easy. Pitched out of a couple jams with focus and balls in the zone. Runs bases aggressively and moves into position to score.
Braxton Perfect lead off guy. Has discipline at the plate and consistently gets deep into counts and reaches base to score. Fast guy and when gets proper lead and times jump will not get caught stealing. Can play solid defense at second, short or center. Ran down fly ball that initially looked difficult but dropped softly into his glove
Robert This guy just reaches base. Great plate discipline and works count in his favor. Caught great first game and made excellent stretch and scoop at first in second game
Practice this week :
Monday (tonight) 7:15pm – 8:30pm
No practice rest of the week due to Fall Break
Extra Games
I have arranged potential games with a team from Franklin, TN prior to our tournament at the end of this month. My thought is that we will practice this week and then play two games against this team prior to our league tournament. I would like to schedule two games with this team. Dates would be Tuesday evening 10/17 and again on 10/24. We would play this games instead of holding practice these two weeks leading into the tournament. Please advise of availability ASAP so that I can finalize arrangements with the other coach.
